Recruiter and the golf industry: How it can benefit your business

For the majority of businesses operating in the golf industry, most would fit into the category of SME rather than FTSE 250. Businesses in the latter category have boundless resources and when it comes to recruitment, and can afford to make mistakes. But when you are a smaller business with a bottom line weighing down on many of your decisions, how you recruit can be one of the most essential strategic underpinnings of your company’s success.

Working with a recruiter shouldn’t mean cost. For many businesses they see it as an investment in a specialist service that they are unable to accomplish themselves. It is widely regarded that recruiters are cost neutral as the cost per hiring, even when driven internally, costs as much, if not more that the fees you will pay. By engaging with specialist recruiters, you are able to benefit from their economies of scale as they will have invested in technology, spent time developing and qualifying talent pools and have expert industry knowledge that adds value to the recruitment process.

However the main benefit of working with a recruiter will be focus. By outsourcing the process you are able to:

1) Focus on your core business – Time spent on recruiting distracts from your core business activities. With the average process taking between 2 – 3 months, you will accumulate a lot of valuable hours on process tasks such as screening and administration.

2) Focus on your existing staff – If too much time is spent focusing on the recruitment process rather than the involvement in the process milestones, it can have a detrimental effect on existing staff as you will not be paying them the required attention. How would your business look if you allocated some of the time to staff development? It would probably look like a motivated and skilled workforce with lower staff turnover.

3) Reduce the risk – By outsourcing the recruitment you take away the risk and therefore pressure of hiring the right person. You are now the customer which is a position of power.

If you adopted the above, what would it look like for you and your business?

Finally, most importantly it will give you peace of mind. This is not only on any active searches but also on future searches. Depending on the relationship you have with your recruiter, many will actively work on your behalf to identify any candidates that would benefit your business. This gives you a pipeline of candidates which will increase the efficiency of adding or replacing a member of staff.
